Underwater photography is becoming increasingly popular with divers who are wanting to give their love of the sport a purpose of some sort. Photography and videography can provide a record of a particular dive, a chance to record a particular species for the first time or to record your dive buddy as being the centre of attention.

What used to be an expensive hobby has now become within reach of most divers, with sophisticated cameras, capable of taking both still photographs and video, being acquired at not unreasonable prices. The adaptability of small action cameras to be body-worn (i.e. clipped on to headgear or to jackets) means that video can be shot hands-free. This is particularly beneficial to scientific divers who may have a task to accomplish requiring the use of both hands.

Lundy is a popular place for underwater photography. Being beyond the murkiness of coastal waters, the underwater visibility is typically between 5-12 m, with 15 m being experienced during periods of calm weather in recent years.

If you are keen on taking stills photographs, particularly portraits of animals or seaweeds, then please consider sharing these with the MPA by uploading them here. We are always on the look-out for good, sharp photos to add to our image library for use in publicity and/or educational materials.

Please label photographs thus:
